Thomas EgliThomas Egli was educated as a microbiologist/biochemist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). He is now Head of the Dept. Environmental Microbiology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), leads the Drinking Water Microbiology research group, and is professor at ETHZ. His research expertise is in microbial (eco)physiology, nutrient limitation, growth kinetics, disinfection (UVC, sunlight) and organic pollutant degradation. He was Swiss Delegate for the OECD and WHO on drinking water issues. Over the past years his research group has developed a number of fast methods for microbiological drinking water analysis based on flow cytometry, some of them already introduced in practice.
