Rosina Girones

Rosina GironesRosina Girones is PhD on Biology in 1986, has been a researcher at the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIH, USA, and since 1989 is professor of Microbiology at the University of Barcelona being the responsible of a laboratory that study viruses transmitted through water and food. Rosina Girones has been involved in research in the area of Environmental Virology for more than 25 years, developing molecular methods for the detection and study of human and animal adenoviruses, enteroviruses, noroviruses, hepatitis A and E viruses, human and animal polyomaviruses and the evaluation of new potential indicators and MST tools. Dr. Girones has coordinated and has been the leader of work packages in projects funded by the European Commission on the study of the viral contamination in shellfish, bathing waters, and at the present, the impact of climate change on the fate, transport and risk management of viral pathogens in water. At the national level has been and is also coordinator of projects on pathogenic human emergent viruses transmitted through water and food. The laboratory of Rosina Girones has also established collaborations with water companies in national and international projects on the control of viral contamination in drinking water.
